Fantasy Football Tips – Gameweek 2

Aston Villa striker Christian Benteke was the highest points scorer in Gameweek 1, after scoring against both Arsenal and Chelsea in the Premier League.

Liverpool’s new number one goalkeeper Simon Mignolet saved a penalty at the death to open his Reds account with 15 points, whilst Branislav Ivanovic, Oscar and Frank Lampard were Chelsea’s main benefactors of the Blues‘ bonus fixture last week.

Elsewhere defensive budget options Luke Shaw (12 points), Seamus Coleman (13 points) and Steven Whittaker (11 points) all impressed, whilst Danny Welbeck and Sergio Aguero provided the cutting edge for the two Manchester clubs up front.

Sportingly Better picks out the best fantasy football tips for Gameweek 2 as Chelsea travel to Old Trafford on Monday.

Captain Choices

Edin Dzeko (MCI)

Manuel Pellegrini’s “aggressive” style of football secured Manchester City a convincing 4-0 victory against 10-man Newcastle on Sunday and the Citizens will be hoping to see more of the same against newcomers Cardiff this weekend.

Dzeko looked reenergised for Manchester City at the Etihad Stadium and the Bosnian forward’s eight attempts on goal could not be bettered by any other striker in the Premier League during Gameweek 1.

Opponents Cardiff are expected to set their stall out to defend in a 4-5-1 formation under Malky Mackay this weekend, but the visitors will be full of confidence and keen to maintain their winning start to the season.

Robin Van Persie (MUN)

Van Persie got his defence of the Premier League Golden Boot off to a dream start with a brace against Swansea at the Liberty Stadium.

The Netherlands international fired in 26 goals for the Premier League champions last term and the former Arsenal striker remains arguably one of Manchester United’s only proven match-winners in the squad.

Van Persie hit seven shots on the Swansea goal last weekend and although the clinical forward is unlikely to get as many attempts on goal against Chelsea this weekend, the talismanic striker looks set to again be Manchester United’s main threat going forward.

Roberto Soldado (TOT)

Roberto Soldado’s 50th minute penalty gave Tottenham all three points against Crystal Palace in Gameweek 1, with the Spanish striker impressing many on his Spurs debut.

Soldado scored twice against Dinamo Tblisi in the Europa League on Thursday to continue his fine start in a Spurs shirt, with manager Andre Villas-Boas indicating that the best is yet to come of his club record signing.

Opponents Swansea conceded four goals against Manchester United last weekend and Soldado’s fine goalscoring fettle looks set to continue at White Hart Lane.

Transfer Tips

Ross Barkley (EVE) – £4.7m

No player has been transferred in more than Everton’s Ross Barkley during this round, with the Toffees midfielder scoring a fine goal during last Saturday’s 2-2 draw with Norwich.

Barkley has seen a swift price rise of £0.2m following his exploits during Gameweek 1 and with the future of Marouane Fellaini still unclear, Barkley looks set to be afforded a significant amount of playing time for Everton this season.

Opponents West Brom managed just one shot on target during their opening match with Southampton and Everton’s promising midfielder looks primed to produce another encouraging display this weekend.

Luke Shaw (SOU) – £4.6m

Only Ben Davies and Leighton Baines fired in more crosses than Southampton’s Luke Shaw during Gameweek 1, as the young left-back helped the Saints earn all three points at the Hawthorns.

Shaw made 23 touches in the final third on Saturday and more attacking forays are expected from the full back over the course of the coming season.

Opponents Sunderland look short on a cutting-edge up front and the Saints could record their second clean sheet of the campaign at St Mary’s this weekend.

David Silva (MCI) – £9.0m

No midfielder made more touches in the opposition half than Manchester City’s David Silva during Gameweek 1, with the Spanish international having opened the scoring during the Citizens 4-0 victory over Newcastle.

Silva scored 4 goals, made 12 assists and picked up 20 bonus points last term and Pellegrini’s more attack-minded focus, leaves Silva in-line to increase his attacking returns for the Premier League runners up this season.

Opponents Cardiff look powerless to avoid defeat on Sunday and Manchester City’s instrumental midfielder could yet again prove fruitful.
