Premiership Betting Tips – 14th – 16th January

The likely arrival of Gary Cahill cannot come soon enough for Chelsea, with the Blues having not kept a clean sheet in their last 6 Premier League games. It’s clear that manager Andre Villas-Boas is not happy with his back-line and Brazilian Alex looks set to move on during the January transfer window.

Last time out Chelsea dispatched Championship side Portsmouth 4-0, but in the Premier League Chelsea have won just once in their last 5 games. Opponents Sunderland are second only to Tottenham in the Premiership form table and Martin O’Neill has got the Black Cats performing exceptionally well since his recent arrival. Sunderland have only failed to score once in the last 8 games and that was away at White Hart Lane back in December. Fans of the Asian Handicap may look to back Martin O’Neill’s side at +1,+1.5 of odds of around 2.025, but Sunderland hit four against Wigan in the Premier League last time out and both teams to score looks the value bet on Saturday.

Both Teams to Score (Chelsea v Sunderland) @1.80

Aston Villa have scored just once in their last four home games at Villa Park and Alex McLeish’s side has failed to score in 8 of their 20 league matches this season. Darren Bent has been far short of the goals that are usually expected from one of the Premiership’s most consistent marksmen, but the recruitment of Robbie Keane on a 6 week loan deal should prove inspiring, although the Irishman is likely to start from the bench this afternoon.

Opponents Everton have brought in Darron Gibson and Landon Donovan from the LA Galaxy during the January transfer window but the Toffees transfer policy has consistently been under the spotlight. Everton have scored an average of just 1 goal per game and in their last 9 Premier League games, only one game has finished with 3 goals or more. With both sides likely to want to avoid defeat, few goals are expected at Villa Park.

Under 2.5 goals (Aston Villa v Everton) @1.66
